Ryan Shaw sophomore full length project “Real Love” is a classic soul follow up off his debut 2007 project “This Is Ryan Shaw”.
Ryan Shaw is a “Classic Soul” artist not to be confused with just an “R&B” artist. His style is like the Motown/Stax era of the 60’s & early 70’s so if you like Al Green, The Temptations, Bobby Womack, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett, etc. you won’t be disappointed.
I’ve heard similar from other artists like Anthony Hamilton, Leela James, Solo, Raphael Saadiq just to name a few but I honestly feel that Ryan Shaw is going to be the “REAL DEAL” and shouldn’t be underestimated because this man’s voice is incredible and soulful as you will hear on “You Don’t Know Nothing About Love”, “The Wrong Man”, “Morning Noon & Night” & “Yesterday”
Although I like majority of the songs but my favorites are “Can’t Hear The Music” & “Evermore” mainly because it sounds more like “Southern Soul” instead of “Classic Soul”.
I was born in the sixties but for some reason I never was big on Motown or Stax. I grew up listening to James Brown, Parliament/Funkadelic, Ohio Players, Sly & The Family Stone etc. Music with funk and now that I’m in my mid 40’s although I will forever stay true to the funk. I’m starting to have a new found appreciation for that Motown-Stax era and listening to Ryan Shaw is helping me realize just how good that music really is.
“Real Love” is a solid project from beginning to end. I can’t say that I love every song musically because it’s still growing on me but I can honestly admit that I DO love every song vocally.
Ryan Shaw is a very gifted singer and a young man with an incredible “Old Soul”
