Eric Benet 6th studio project “The One” is a 70’s soul flashback for at least the first half of the project. the other half he mixes it up with styles like Reggae, Jazz, Soft Pop & Country & Western so if you like diversity then you will love this project.
My personal favorites are “Real Love”, “Runnin”, “Waitin” & “News For You” but I also like “Muzik” feat. daughter India Benet. “Redbone Girl” f/ Lil Wayne how the music started with a Al Green feel then switched to “The Motto” beat when Lil’ Wayne rapped. The jazz laced “Come Together” which put me in the mood of something Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds would do and “Here in My Arms” (Lucia’s Lullaby) is a heartfelt dedication to his newborn daughter Lucia Bella.
Benet married Prince’s ex-wife, Manuela Testolini, who gave birth on December 21, 2011.
Actually I like 10 out of the 13 songs. “Gonna Be My Girl” & “Lay It Down” just didn’t captivate me and the bonus track “Come Home to Me” is cool if you like Country but unfortunately I just can’t get into Country & Western.
I wished he would have just kept it old school throughout the whole project.
Overall “The One” is very nice especially for those 30 and up.
