Amarillo Warrant Roundup Begins

_AWToday’s online Amarillo Globe News has the following story by JC Cortez: “Amarillo’s municipal court has sent out postcards informing people of their obligations while police officers prepare to tackle a 35,070-strong list of outstanding warrants as authorities announce their participation in Texas’ annual warrant roundup. Some citations with warrants attached can be paid online, police said. A list of current warrants is available at Amarillo.gov/municipalcourt, including warrant details and how to resolve the issue. For those unable to pay online, Amarillo’s municipal court will be open from 8 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and will remain open until 7 p.m. Thursdays.

Authorities are warning residents about possible scam activity during the roundup. Other areas have reported phone scams, police said, in which callers pose as police or court officials and try to convince victims to send money or face arrest.

Neither Amarillo police nor municipal court officers will ever ask for financial information over the phone, police said; officials will not make arrangements to pay any ticket or warrant charges over the phone. If a caller asks to arrange for payment of a warrant or citation over the phone, police said, it is an attempt at fraud.

Questions about outstanding warrants can be directed at the municipal court at 378-9342.”
