I’m fairly new to Amarillo and still trying to understand “the culture” here. I say that because I was born and raised in the North, and still not sure how ” Black Amarillo” views things, though I love the word of God Himself, ” He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? – Micah 6:8 “.
In view of God’s word, my question is this:why do people here feel it is such a sin for God’s people to drink alcohol (though not to excess), play cards or dominoes, enjoy music with a few friends, or whatever when God says all he requires is for us to:
1. do justly,
2. love mercy, and
3. walk humbly with thy God?
It seems folks want to add to the word and pass judgment or put restrictions on folks when God’s word is so clear right here in Micah 6:8?
My husband and I discuss this often and wonder if we are the only middle age (40’s) black folks in Amarillo who know God’s grace abounds and it’s all right for folks to love the Lord, love a good time with friends, and love a good glass a wine or cold beer too?
Maybe we are just weird or bigger sinners than we know.
Love to hear what you think…
